Formerly Paige Hutchison, Hrothgar’s mother met her Calhoun husband in college. Now a professor of cultural history, she’s taken her mother and grandmother’s love of flowers in a new, more scholarly direction. Not one for bright colors, she lives her life in browns and greens. The exception is forget-me-nots and cornflower, two flowers she used to help her grandmother gather as a girl. She loves her family fiercely, but her wit and good humor keeps the depth of that love from being readily apparent. She coordinates with Amanda Holt, Ryan’s mother, to make sure Gar and Ryan go to the carnival together to sort out their differences.
